POLO.
The coining visit of the Victorian polo team to C-kristehurch. is causing groat interest bsra, if one may judgo by the Inrg? number of spectators who were*present on Saturday to watch the practica games of tha Chris tchureh Polo- Club in Haglcy Park. Afternoon Un was kindly provkhd by Mia Wardrop, and was much appreciated by players and 00100-ke-is. The ground was hi capital order, and soma good gam-ss were .witnessed. Tha players wers Messrs Turreil, A. J",. C>. Rhocbs, Claridgs, Hall, O'Rorkc. Fox, Heaten Rhodes. Woodroffe. Ali.st; j r Clark (who lias jv.<. rt-t urn-Mi iiom Knglaiid, and was w&ieomcd by all players), and Ciarlison.
All the punies seemed in eseell-tiit condition, -writEsi a eorrE'?pondent, and are reully u> credit to tlia Ciub. The captain, evid2iitly with v view of choosing tiie representative team for t-io approaching match, tried several different of player?, iisxl vj.tv evsnly contested spells resulted. From an onlooker's point of view tiio hitting in the right direction was net as good as it might be. soma players thinking that as long us they hit the ball it vrasr. sufficient, vritih-out rgm«mberiis.g that the main object was ti> put th-r bull where it would be most advantageous for their side to score from, that is to Kay, if they could not make sure of scoring themselves. Then the riding off was not ivihai it should be, and several times playtirs lield back for a chance mis» of their opponents' instead of going straight for their man. However, the captain and Mr Lano hare some good material to choose from, and it is the wish of everyone in Christ-church that our men may do well against such a redoubtable team as the Victorians, wbo are the strongest in Australia. Tlie Victorian team arrives on. Tuesday, and the first match is played on Wednesday. There ara four players and an emergency, and twelve of the best ponies in Australia, which alone should be a treat for all.lovers of horseflesh to see.
The Ohristchurch team will be finally selected to-day after the practice match at 5 o'clock.
