NEW BRIGHTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The New Brighton Borough Council met an Tuesday night. The Mayor reported that the work on Marriott's road was proceeding satisfactorily. Correspondence was read from th* Treasury, stating that concrete channelling did not come under _the heading of sanitary work, and the amount of the proposed loan allocated for this purposa could not be passed. Consideration of this matter was deferred. It was resolved to repair the road at Herring Bay, where the river overflows. Tlie new valuation list was handed in, and tbe valuer reported an increased rateable value of over £500. In pursuance of notice Cr. Glanville moved that the -whole of Georga street, as fax as the tram stables, be properly formed, and that one chain in width on the western side be efficiently and the eastern sida> of the road planted with marram grass. Cr. Glanville also moved, and it was carried, "that it is desirable that George street be put in a state of efficient repair." It was decided that a committee of the whole Council should visit George street, and bring up a report as to whether it is possible to give effect to the previous resolution. It was decided to advance to the Domain Board the amount which would bo required to cut up the firewood in the Domain. The clerk was instructed to have a culvert put in at the junction of Richmond T.rrace and Thomas street. It was resolved that the sand should be removed from the boarding on the esplanade at once.
