Battlo Honours—Dettingen, Egypt with the Sphinx, Martinique, Ava, Afghanistan, Ghuznee, Jellalabad (with badge), Cabul (1842), Sebastopol, South Africa (1878-9), Burma (1886-7)". Uniform —Scarlet with blue facings. The Somersetshire Light Infantry (Prince Alberts), the old Thirteenth Foot, dates its existence from the year 1685, when the threatened invasion by Moninouth induced the King to increase the strength of the army. They fought at the Boyne and other British battles, and in 1701 commenced the career of foreign servic-2, in which they have won so great a renown. They were at Gibraltar during the seven years' "war, in Egypt in 1800, and on tha Canadian frontier during the American War of Indepsndence. In India the regiment rendered splendid service, and for their defence of Jelialabad the regiment, in accordance with her late Majesty's gracious commands, received their present badge of tho embattled crown, and likewise the title of the "Prince Albert's Light Infantry." The regiment was engaged in the Crimea, Zulu, and Transvaal wars. A second battalion was formed in 1858.
