A FURTHER REMAND. George Edward Beutley. who recently was romaaried for medical treatment at, the Hospital, as he was suffering from the eii'ects «>f drink, and also from injuries, caais before the Court- again yesterday, and on Jt&e application of the police -was further remanded till to-day, so that certain charges of assault preferred by Bentley may be gone into.
MAINTENANCE. ; 0.1 behalf of Michael Dninick, an old man of Polish extraction. Mir Malley applied for the enforcement- of a maintenance order against complainant's son. It was stated that the son, who is a, married man living in Taronaki, was too poor to attend the Court, and the case was adjourned for three weeks. j INEBRIETY. ! An old offender, named Patrick Ryan, made another appearance before Mr Bishop, S.M., yesterday, upon a charge of being found drunk in*Latimer square on Monday. He was lined 10s, in default forty-eight hours. j INDECENCY. I A middle-aged man, giving his name as ' Charles Wilson, was sentenced to three months' hard labour for wilful indecency in the presence of three little girls. HUSBAND' AND WIFE. John Knight, an aged man, applied for an order for his support against his wife, ' Charlotte Knight, alleging that he was not ] supplied with food, and had not been supplied for the last two months. He lived with his wife, four unmarried daughters, and two grown-up sous, and his Hie was made miserable. Mr Byrne, appeared for Knight, and Mr Donnelly for Mr 3 Knight. Applicant gave evidence ithat he was sixtyfour years of age. His wife had freehold property and shares in various concerns. Some years ago he had made all his property over to his wife, and it was now desired to turn him out. Cross-examined by Mr Donnelly, Knight said he kept a few fowls at Mr McAlpine's for amusement, and a garden for .pastime. Evidence was giver. . that Knight was a quiet, steady, reliable man. Mrs Knight informed the Court that it took herself, her four daughters, and som all their time to keep a roof over their heads ; and to gain a bare existence. She was utterly unable to do anything, even to wash a teacup, while her husband was able to work, but for years wouldn't do anything. His Worship decided to made a order "against Mrs Knight to pay 7s 6d per week towards her husband's support, and the eldest son, ! John Walter Knight, to pay 2s 6d per week. I SUMMARY SEPARATION. • Edith Maria Ash applied for an orJer of j separation; on the grounds of cruelty and j drunkenness on the part of Robert Ash, her j husband. The case was adjourned until this ■ afternoon, when an order was made, by con- ! sent, for separation, complainant to* have ; custody of the two children, and defendant >to pay 15s per week maintenance, together I with costs.
J BREACH OF THE SHOP ACT. j James Shanaghan, Inspector, under the I '"'Shop and Shop Assistants Act, 1894," j charged Messrs "Matson and Co. with employing three employees on December 51st later than half-an-hour after the prescribed tima of closing. Mr Russell, for defen- . dants, admitted the charge, and said the : employment of the clsrks had been made necessary by the wool sales. Mr Stringer, for informant, p&Lnted cut that defendants' clerks had worked on more evenings both in January and Decsnibsr, than the ten per month allowed by the Act. It was not, i however, proposed to press the second j charge. A fine of 40s and costs was mii flicted.
