WOMEN'S WORK IN INDIA.

A well attended meeting of friends of Misses Harband, who are at present on furlough from India, was held en Friday evening°at Mrs J. R. Brunt's residence. Linwood, to consider the best way to raise a fund to assist thess lady missionaries in their work amongst'the women and girls of India. Miss Jack, 8.A., was voted to the chair. It was reported that the Mayor and Mayoress of Christchurch had very willingly granted their patronage, also Professor Cook (Canterbury College), Miss Gibson, M.A. (Gir:s* High School), Mr E. Watkins (Principal Normal School), Mr Geo. Laurenson, M.H.R., also the headmasters and mistresses of nearly all the town and suburban primary schools. It was decided to engage the Art Gallery for Friday, March Bth. A programme was arranged for an afternoon and evening gathering. It was proposed that the opening ceremony be performed by the Mayor at three o'clock, that short addresses bearing upon their work b3 given by Misses Harband.'also songs, recitations, etc., afternoon tea, and exhibition of Indian curios and fancy goods. In the evening an entertainment consisting of limelight viaws bearing upon Indian life would be given by Misses Harband. interspersed with musical items, and recitations by school girls in Indian costume. Mrs J. E. Baker was appointed hon. treasurer and Mr J. R. Brunt hon. secretary.
