THE AUSTRALIAN WIDOWS' FUND LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY.

AN EXPERT OPINION. The Directors of the Australian Widows' Fund Assurance Society, Limited, are once more %b\e to circulate a report showing steady progressiveness in ths acquisition of new business. The report for the year ended 31st October, 1900, states an amount of new busness larger than for several years past, and exceeding the total for the previous year by nearly £50,000. Another year, of which nearly -a, quarter has expired, wisl complete another quinquennium, and doubtless it will be brought to a conclusion by a further large accretion cf business. Already the actuary of the society is engaged in the work connected with the sixth quinquennial investigation, and the report assures the members that mere is every prospect of a surplus being shown that will provide revisicnary '.bonuses which should fully satisfy them. So favourable a result will be the more acceptable as it will be based upon a 3£ per cent, valuation. The increase in the accumulated funds for the year is very nearly £60,000, and the prospect is that by the close of the quinquennium the total will fall little short of £1,600,000. The average rate of interest received on the funds is satisfactory. . . . . . . . It exceeds the valuation rate by nearly 1 per cent. One of the gratifying features of the accounts is the profit "made on the realisation of foreclosed securities. For three years in succession a profit is shown, and it is expected that when the account is finally closed the amount will be a fairly substantial one

In every material respect the evidence of an enlightened and Jrm management is clear. The members of the society have the gratification of knowing that their affairs are in a prosperous condition and that progress is the order of the day. —" The Insurance and Banking Record, 19th January. 1901. , 34
