THE MEN IN CAMP.
(SPECIAL TO "TTCB ritrSS.") WELLINGTON, January 18. Thousands of pgoplb continue to visit the Contingent Camp at Xewtown, and whole families spend the entire day there picnicking on the terraces surrounding the tented field. Colonel Teuton reviewed the Contingent in detail yesterday, and expressed liimself Mutinied with the class of men chosen, and jjrutilied at the quality of the majority of the- lioisus. Dr. Mason, of the Health Department, is an angina for the inoculation of the men against enteric fever. All who desire it will be inoculated. Captain .Andrew, of the Hyderabad Lancer*, who has accepted- v captaincy of one of the companies, is a New Zealander. and liails from Sydenham, Canterbury. He originally received » commission in the Devon.*, famous for the Waggon Hill exploit in the Transvaal War, afterwards exchanging into the Lancers. He has been in India for übout ten years.
The Wellington and Southern detachment of the Sixth Contingent, in camp at Newtown Park, embark for Auckland by the troopship Cornwall, now on her wav across from Australia, on Saturday, the 26th inst., instead of on Friday, as originally arranged. Lieutenant-Colonel Porter, who Lias liad control of the arrangements in connection with the formation and getting ready of the Contingent in the absence of Colonel Pent on in Australia, has now handed over the camp to the Commander of the Forces. Colonel Porter performed his duties in a fashion tlmt has made him popular with both officers and men.

AUCKLAND, January 18. At a the General Committee in connection -with the send-off to the Sixth Contingent, the motion was carried by 19 to 11 in favour of providing alcoholic refreshment!! if required, under the- supervision of the Committee.
