CRICKET.
WELLINGTON v CANTERBURY. A local cricketer has received a letter from a cricketing enthusiast in Wellington, in which the writer states that he considers the Wellington team the strongest team the Empire City hr,3 ever put in the field. The writer may be a bit enthusiastic, but certain it is that the Northerners are a very strong combination, and Saturday's match should be a prcat fight for supremacy. As Pearce ia unable to play for Canterbury Robertson will take his place.
D. Reese, the ex-Canterbury cricketer, who is now rcsidi.-;? in Melbourne, represented the Melbourne Cricket Club's First Eleven 111 their Senior Pennant match, against Fitzroy on January sth. Heavy rain had fallen previous to the dav"s-play, which caused the wicket to be sreatly in favour of the bowlers. Fitzroy batted first, but only scored. Melbourne started by losing lour wickets for G runs, and then Reese went in, and'by spirited battin? knocked un 27, including a 5 and three -i's, and the Melbournites total reached 85. Fitzroy lost seven wickets for 22 runs in their second venture.
