THE LATE LIEUTENANT ROSS.
Lieutenant Ross's brother, Trooper A. L. Ross, was acting as his orderly, and was probably with the lieutenant when he died. Naturally the shock came as a sad blow to deceased's mother, whose hopes had been buoyed by letters received dated December 2nd, in which Lieutenant Ross s,>oke of the marvellous escapes he and his brother had from death and disaster, in! of th" sad losses the troop had sustained. He spoke cheerfully of the future, and of his own successes, but with soldierly modesty asked that hi* letters be not made public. Mrs Ross only got word by cable on Saturday night last; just tha brief intelli<ience thather son was dead. She is anxiously awaiting further news from the front, but bears her grief as a soldier's mother should.
