THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
MESSRS WEDDEL AND CO.'S ANNUAL REVIEW. FALLING OFF IN THE IMPORTS OF MUTTON. FORMIDABLE RIVALRY OF THE ARGENTINE. United Press Association—By Elestrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received January 13th. 5.20 a.m.) LONDON, January 12. Messrs Weddel and Co.'s annual review of tho meat trada *>ays that the imports of mutton into the United Kinpdom during--1900 were 575,976 carcass below those of 1899. The consumption appears temporarily to have overtaken the production. The quality of both New Zealand and Australian mutton lias been generally excellent, and has enabled Australians t-o held their own against the River Plate article. The circular advises that tho hulk of the lambs should arrive in April, May, and June. The imports of River Plate beef exceeded both Australian and New Zealand shipments. As the River Plato article has greatly improved in quality it becomes a formidable rival. The circular anticipates that fairly high values will be maintained in all meats for some months.
