THE VOLUNTEERS.
At an inspection parade of tlie Kaiapoi Rifles, on Thursday, under Captain E. _. Papprill, the**e were forty-three on parade. Sergeant-Majbr Farthing, of the staff, was present, and exercised the company.The Studholme Mounted Rifles have been encamped, near Waimate Creek, since last week. On Wednesday 50 troopers, wider Captain Garland, marched to Waihao Downs, and were hospitably entertained by Mr and Mrs J. Douglas. Lieutenants Studholme, McGowan, and- Chaplain, and Rev. M. Gibson, were also with the troop. An impromptu sports took place. The troop on returning to camp visited the Waimate Station, and were well received by Mrs Studholme. About midday the camp broke up, and tents were strucE.
