MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.

The New Bright >n School Committee met on Wednesday night. The Chairman stated that the inspector's report and the plan of the proposed additions to the school would be laid before the Board at its next meeting. It was dlecided that the school .vhould break up for the summer holidays on Friday, the 14th inst., and re-assemble on the 28th January. A hearty vote of thanks was pnssed to those who contributed in kind and assisted α-t the demonstration of the hoisting of the flag. The headmaster reported that he had received £8 Is 8d towards the school prize fund. The sum of £17 was voted for the purchase of prizes, and it was decided to distribute them at the school on the afternoon of Friday, the 14th inst., at 2 p.m.

At the annual meeting of the Oak of Sydenham Lodge of Druids the balance sheet and auditoi-s' report showed the membership to be 152, and th-3 amount of cred'tt to the Sick Fund over £2000. The Committee appointed to dra-ft rul?s for female lodges, which were to b9 submitted to D.G.L. meeting, to be held at Timaru, gave in their report. The following officers were elected for the ensuing term, and installed by Bro. Cotton. D.P.:—Bros. J. Betts, A.D. ; Bro. W. Hulbert. V.A.; Bro J. Hadh'eld. sec: Bro. J. Fisher, treasurer; Bro. R. Wright, M.5.,; Bros. Beckett and Ellis. A.D.B.'s; Bros. R. Fisher and Stephens, V.A.B.'s; Bro. Pearce, I.G. ; Bro. A. E. Bell, O.G. ; Bro. Fisher, P.A. auditor; Bros. Weir, P.D.P., and J. Hadfield, D.G.L. representatives. Bro. Turneau was nominated for the office of D.P.

Court Tbistle of the Forest, A.0.F., met on Tuesday evening, when nominations of officers for ensuing term were received, as follows: —Bro. Walshaw. S.C.R. ; Bro. Jewell, S.W. ; Bro. Kfcull and Sister E. Savage. Woodwards; Bro. Hunter, 5.8.; Bro. W. Marks, J.B. ; Bro. W. Haig, M.S. ; Bros. W. D. Marks and D. Round, district delegates One candidate was initiated.

The Amberley Glee Class gave their annual concert in the Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday evening laet. A number of glees were given, under the baton of Mr R. Stevenson. Songs were contributed by Mrs Coleman, Misses Reid ond Barclay. Messrs V. -Rhodes and T. Chamberlain; duets by Mrs Brodie and Miss Barclay, and Messrs R. Stevenson and B. Turner; and a short address was delivered by the presiedtn , Dr. Fkzhenry. Tlie accompaniments were played by Mrs Tobin, Miss Milner, and N. Rhodes. A plea-saut evening was concluded by a dance, to the music of Mr C. Wells. The ladies of the society kindly provided refreshments for the evening.

Fuller's Bijou Company attracted a full house last night, when the programme of the previous evening was again gone t-lirough. The biogrnph pictures were much appreciated, as were the items given by Miss Kva Wilson, Mr Aubrey Douglass. Mr Percy James. and Mr Fred Bluett. To-night, the programme will be repeated.

The company who are performing at the Jubile-e Paviion. opposite the Theatre, had a good house lasst night, and a programme containing a number of items of a varied character was given. The company appears again this evening.

There was a good a-wC-ndance at Sr.. Luke's Schoolroom last night, wb-en a gymnastic display v.-as given by a number of young ladies, under the direction of tbeir teacher. Miss F. Barnes. One. or two items were given by members of the Young Men's Club. Instrumental selections were played by Miss Lingard (piano) and Mr Cliff (violin). Songs were sung by Misses K. Barnes, Livingstone, and Mrs Jenkins. i*ie wand, dumb-bell exercises. Indian club swinging, calisthenie rings, and novel exercise by the Ladies' Club were pood items, also similar work by the junior class. The execution of pyramids "tiy a team from the Young Men's Club, under their instructor, Mr T. Harker and running evolutions by the combined classes were grea.tlv appreciated. Miss Lingard and Mi.-.-! M. Webb acted a<? accompanists. The singing of the NTational Anthem terminated an enjoy:»ble evening. There was :i. large and enthusiastic audience at t'.ie Opera House lv.st night, when the Dix Gaiety Company repeated their programme. Mr Tom was successful with h%s comic items, and Muss Ida Clarkson had L> respond to several encores for her Mr Churles Hampton would be more successful if he would pronounce the words lie sings plainer. Tba William? Sisters again received loud plaudits for iheir clever trick cycling act, and Miss Flo YfUliams was good in her coon songs. To-night, Messrs Collins ;iixl Brown will re-appear.
