INDUSTRIAL SCHOOLS.
— i<lll THE PROVISIONS FOR CLASSIFICATION. RECEIVING HOWE FOR GIRLS ESTABLISHED. In pursuance of the intention of the Government to classify those committed to the Industrial Schools of the colony, there has been established in this city a receiving home where girls v.ho have been at service, but are temix>rarily disengaged, can remain till another place is found for also where children who have bsen committed to industrial schools can be kept until suitable pei-son.s are found with whom they may be boarded out. The house, which lias been leaded for the purpose, is situated, at the corner of Barbadues and Lichfield streets, and Miss Christopher, the matron, commenced operations on the 18th inst. A representative of "The Press" visited the house yesterday, and was shown over ' it. It -is a new building-, and consists of ten rooms (including bathroom and scullery), three of which comprise the dormitories for the girls. There are also a dining-room and rooms for the matron and her assistant. The rooms are all on one flat, are plastered, and have a bright and cleanly appearance. It is estimated "tlint the house | will accommodate nine or ten girls, as tha i bedrooms will not be crowded with anything i beyond what is absolutely necessary. The light and ventilation are good. From what the reporter could gather it is intended to instruct the girls in household work whilst they are awaiting employ- I ment outside; and those who have been in service will be kept in practice. Only the best class of girls -will be received at the Home, where a register, containing Ihrir names and probably n-marks ieijr.rding their j conduct, will be ktpt by the .Matron. Km- ' ploy-crs raiuirint,' domestic helps will b? re- j ferred to the Home, where, ■when things are I in full working order, they should be able j to obtain eftiuieritly-irained- servants. At present there are "only tw\> at the Home, and it is und-arstood they have plates to go to.
