CHRIST'S COLLEGE SPORTS.

TO THE EDITOB. OF THE T&ESS,

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.

Sir, —I hear that the Committee or other person or persons. at the head of affairs have decided not to give the Gould's Challenge Cup to H. Hanmer, who won the raca yesterday in such splendid time and form, on the grounds that oiw or more of the pegs marking the course had been removed t,by the committee) and that the competitors might not have gone the correct course. I believe I am correct in stating that before the committee can order the race to be re-nm they must prove that as a matter of fact the winner did not keep to the course laid out by them for the race. If this is not correct what would be the position if after the day's sports were over the course on re-measurement was found to be syds too long or syds too short. As a matter of fact the competitors kept to the beaten track, and must have run the course as it ought to have been pegged. Trusting, sir, that such a gross injustice in making the boy run the race again will not be perpetrated.—l am, etc., OXON.

5ir,...1 was present at the Christ's College sports to-day, and was considerably surprised at the result of the Old Boys' Race. In this event C. F. Overton and E. Donald were placed first and second respectively. Neither of these (names appears onthe race programme or the official Press copy of the handicaps. Such matters should be above suspicion, and I would be glad if the Principal of the College would answer the following questions: —(1) When did these men enter, (2) what was the handicap of each, (3) from what mark did each start. This last seems very important in view of remarks I have heard from bystanders. —I am, etc., CORRECT CARD. October 10th, ISOO. (As a matter of fairness we submitted our correspondent's queries to the headmaster of "Christ's College. Mr Bourne informs us that this is the first time he has heard of the matter, and that the proper course for anyone who feels aggrieved is to address liimself to the Committee who had charge of the sports.—Ed. "The Press.")
