The stewards of the Rokaia Boxing Daysports and races have drawn up a programme which provides for prize money to the value of over £90. This was adopted at a general meeting. The season of agricultural shows is upon us once more. On the 23rd the Ashburton Show takes place, followed on the 25th by the Ellesmere, and then cornea the Northern and Timaru Shows. All of these are prior to the Metropolitan Show of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Donald Macdonald, of Ladysmith fame, has appeared in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin, and has everywhere been received with "open arms," his tour, so far, being one triumphant success. Unlike most, celebrities, he comes to us in the height of his success, opening at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening next. Should the weather prove fine fo-day there ought to be a record attendance at the opening of the boating season. Very complete arrangements have been made for the occasion, and the procession this year, from ,the abundance of flowers, should prove very attractive. At the Choral Hall to-morrow evening an illustrated lecture on- the life and work of Rev. C. H. Surgeon, and recital of the I well-known poem "Jane Conquest," illustrated by coloured pictures, will be given by Mr Buckingham. The ceremony of hoisting the school flag at the Marist Brothers' School, Barbadoes street, will take place to-day, shortly after 2 o'clock..
