AFTERNOON" SITTING.

The Council met at 2.30 p.m., and decided on its rising to sit to-morrow at 11 a.m. FIRST READING. Mr W. C. WALKER obtained permission to introduce the New Zealand Institute of Sui-veyors and Board of Examiners' Bill, which was read a first time. WORKERS' COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENTS. With reference to the amendments made by the House of Representatives in the Worker;; , Compensation for Accidents Bill, Mr BONAR thought the provisions of the new clause 20a absolutely monstrous. The clause reads —Every policy of accident insurance issued after the coming into operation of this Act shall contain only such provisions aa may be ajiproved by the Go-vernor-in-Caunc'il. The Minister explained the clause simply meant that all conditions of accident insurance policies were to be approved by the Government, not that nil individual,policies should be submitted to the Government. The amendments were carried by 17 votes to 14. FIRST READINGS. The Public Works Act Amendment Bill and the Representation Bill were read a first time. THE DAILY "HANSARD." i The Reporting Debates and Printing Committee had no recommendation to make with regard to the publication of a daily "Hansard," which would entail an extra expense of £38 per week. ANIMALS , PROTECTION BILL. The Animals' Protection Act Amendment Bill was committed. Clause 2 was amended to provide for the season for native or imported game throughout the colony commencing on May Ist and closing on July 31st, with a proviso for a restriction on earlier closing on the application of the Acclimatisation Society. Clause 4 was amended by the addition of words to provide that the first triennial close year for native pigeons, pukaki and kaka shall commence three years from May Ist, 1901. The Bill was reported, read a third time, and passed. The Council adjourned at 4.20 p.m. till 8 o'clock.

The Council met at 8 p.m., agreed to the amendments by the House in the Old Age Pension Bill, and adjourned at 8.10 p.m.
