From a musical standpoint the MoUtli: Society's concert in. the Choral Hall hsfc night was highly successful, although tins'-: audience was not po large as the interesting nature of the items deserved. The orchis-; tra, under the direction of Mr Wells, in M first part, pave the overture from Mozarifo.: "Don Juan" exceedingly well, and Elga/s Short Suite (serenade for strings) was interpreted •with as great success. In the t* eond part the Eiitr' Acte from Gounod's "LaT 1 Golombs" was given with considerable eSdi*"* "tiveness, while "the selection from Dvorak's '•Slasviscbe Dances" was notable for all the fire and charm wliich the spirit of the music dermiods. Tlie closing piece, Gounod'? "iSulfcarello," wast exceedingly well played, Tli3 "Kroutzer Sonata" was splendidly played- by Mr A; Zeplin, accompanied by Miss F. C Triggs, and in ■ response to iai imperative encore Mr Zeplin played Wieniawski's "Spanish Dance." Mrs Bnrclß, who was in excellent voice, sang "The Beating of My Own Heart" with fine expression, and a,s an encore "Mv B,%hby." She al« sang G. Henschel's "Spring," v aiid with "Sint; Sweet Bird," ■on.--bein? r«eall«L; Gorinp Thomas's "A Summer Night" was sung by Miss Alice Gray, who was, however, much more successful iii her second song, F. Hock* ley was vary successful in his ringing of Frances Alli'tsen's 'O, Like a Queen,".aid ako in Carl Bohm's "Mine and ThiueV which was well giv.ii. He responded to an imperative recall. Mr A. Miller tyas in excellent voice, and Leslie Stuart's stirrin.ij.song, "The Bandolera," was ■well'sung. In, rctpoiiso to an encore ha gave, with'jnuca'.. foolinjr, "The Coining of tlva Kiig." He was also recalled' for. liis fine and vigorous ■ interpretation of "Will o' the-Wisp," Tfee accompaniments were excellently played by Dr. Crooke.
