As already announced, Mr Donald Macdonald, the war correspondent, will open his lecture season at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday ..vening next. Mr MacdonaJd has the rare gift of describing mest vividly * the stirring scenes through which-lie- has passed in South Africa, and to hear a man t who has been in besieged Ladysmith is an '■ experience which one would not willingly $ forego. Mr, Macdonald's season in the South has been a most successful one, full houses, having greeted him every evening. ■ The plan of the reserved seats cmens this morning, at Messrs Milner and Thompson'-. The benefit kindly tendered by Mr Dix in aid of the widow and family of the late Engineer Abbott will take place to-morrow-evening at the Opera House. Tho programme is an attractive one, and this, together with the nature of the appeal now being made should ensure a full house on the. occasion. Tlie members of the Fire Brigade are working hard to make the benefit a success, and it is to be hoped the public will respond to the appeal which . is now being made. The operatic section of th«| Natives: Association will give a performance to-night at the Theatre, the first of two. The programme is a most attractive one, including as it does the pretty comedietta " Why Women Weep," Tom Taylor's comedy drama «' Sheep in Wolf's Clothing," and a mußical sketch by Mr Cane, " Positive and Negative." The principal parts in the first two pieces will be . taken by Mrs Marsh, Mrs F. W. Thompson, Messrs Winter HaH t F. W. Thompson, R. Thompson and Wood Jones.
