The stranger, who was wearing soft Blipper., making no noiue, then began to follow at a short distance behind, waiting. apparently, a. convenient opportunity for attack. The journalist turned round, challenged the man, and threatened to give him in charge. The stranger th-yeupon made off along Cashel street, towards C&ombo street. Th* journalist shouted for tho police in order that the man might be intercepted, but the constable was several blocks away at the time, and came up too late. Meanwhile, hia companion from wliom he had just separated, hearing tbe shouting had turned back, and when opposi**. Brice's corner saw a tall, thin man run swiftly and silently up Colombo street to Arenas'- Hotel, past that, and into High street. The gas lights had all been turned out, but the light from the moon was sufficient to distinguish the man's form moving in front of the shops. It was too late to intercept him, for he disappeared in the twinkling of an eye. A constable arrived at Cashel street corner shortly afterwards, but nothing could be done then, since no one had obtained a distinct glimps* of the {.Haw's face.
