The references in the Greymouih ne* papers to the mishap to the Grey River Gc Dredging Company's dredge are of the brieft description. The "Star" of Thursday Bays: "Owing to a alight accident to the Gr dredge machinery work has been delayed foi couple of day 3, but dredging will be resum to-morrow. The "Grey River Argus" of F day states :—"Tne damaged ahaft of the Gi River Company's dredge has been taken the Dispatch Foundry to be repaired. We in the meantime is stopped." Advices from the West Coast state, says t Otago Daily Times," that the Waipa dredge will commence work for certain < Monday. According to the "Grey River A gne " it was expected that a trial of the dred would be made oa Tuesday, but tKat the i salt would sot b* kaowa lot & d*y or two.

The directors of the Laet Chance Company report that though they have had the property prospected with excellent results, they have, in deference to. the resolution of the shareholders, asked the vondora to bear the expense of further prospecting. The report of the directors of the Clyde Company states that the gold won during , the year was valued at £4913. The dividends declared have amounted to 7s 6d per share. GREYMOUTH, September 9. The return of the Progress mines, Reefton, for August, shows thai 16950z gold were obtained from 5000 tons, and S4oz gold from 30 tons. The Consolidated Dredge, Reefton, has obtained 12oz 16dwt gold for 190 houre' work.
