Unite- Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph— Copyright. , (Received September 7th, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. The Stella. Polare, the Duke d'Abruzzi's ship> has returned to Norway. The Duke d*Abruzzi left Christiania in June of last year in a ,hip specially constructed on the model of Nanscn's vessel, tho Fram, with the intention of attempting a journey towards the North Pole, making Franz Josefs Land his first objective, and intending afterwards, if conditions were favourable, to establish depots and make the attempt with dogs. In the event of that proving impracticable the expedition was to confine itself to the exploration of Franz Josefs Land. (Received September Bth, 12.55 a.m.) LONDON, September 6. The Stella Polare was embedded in ice for eleven months. The expedition reached 86deg 33ntin North latitude, beating Dr. Nansen, whose most northerly point was 86deg 14min.
(H.R.H. the Duke of Abruzzi, with a large staff of assistants, started in the Stella Polare from Christiania-on June 12th, 1899, with the object of pushing his way to a high latitude by sea over to Franz Josef's Land, and wintering on board. The expedition is one of several that had attempted to reach the Far North, via Siberia, within the hist two or three years, from the United States, Sweden. Norway, Denmark, Russia, Italy, and Monaco.)
