WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting was held on Monday. The Milling and Produce Company called attention to the statement made by Captain Jackson, ketch Kestrel, an_ corroborated by two others, thoit the vessel stood in for the bar with a fair wind on the 18th, but the signalman was not attending, and as no signals were given, the ketch ran for port, and was delayed in getting into the river. A letter from Captain Jackson to the Chairman stated, as lie understood a complaint would be made against the signalman, he explained that on no consideration would he have attempted to cross the bar on the 18th, as the weather was foggy. It was decided to hear the signalman's statement. Mr G. Wright said, owing to the heavy sea and foggy weather he did not expect any vessels, but the fog did clear for a time, but he-was not at the signal station. It was decided to fnrnish the Milling and Produce Company with a copy of the captain's letter and • signalman's statement, and it was resolved, "That the Board expects the signalman to attend to his duty on"all occasions." It was decided that two men do two days' work in completing a groyne on the south side of the river. The receipts were £40 Is 9d, balance in hand £67 16s 6d. Accounts amounting to £10 10s 6d were passed. In reply to a question, it was stated the wages paid on groynes was 5s a day, and a representation that it should be 6s was not entertained. The Board then adjourned.
