THE MACKENZIE TARTAN.
During iv discussion in the House on Friday night, the Premier said tliat during Mr Thomas Mackenzie's last election campaign, some thousand yards of tartan ribbon were sent broadcast throughout the district, but a mistake iutd been made. It was, TUid the Premier, the Mouteitb, and not the Mackenzie, tartan that had been sent. Mr Mackenzie only laughed at the Premier, who, he said, had blundered Badly. As a matter of fact, there was no Monteith tartan. In order that Mr Seddon may not confuse the Mackenzie tn.rtan with any other (says our Wellington correspondent), Mr Mackenzie has now rent him a Mackenzie clan scarf. Accompanying the scarf was the following letter to Mr Seddon:—"The noble Mackenzie stands alone and wins, and bis clan tartan must never be confused with any other, still less with a name not honoured or distinguished with a tartan. Permit ir.e, therefore, right honourabls sir, ta present you with the distinguished and honoured colours of the most noble Mackenzie clan. Long j»ar you have health to wear them."
