The Shanghai Consuls report that the Legations were safe on the 4th. The Chinese had ceased their attack, and the chief fear now is that those seeking refuge in the Legations may .uccumib to siarvaSUPPORT FROM CHINESE SYMPATHISERS. Native rumours are current that Chinese 'sympathisers are affording the Legations material support. THE YANG-TYZE VALLEY. (Received July 9th, 10.50 p.m.) HONG KONG, July 9. Great Britain has promised to support the Viceroy of Nankin in suppressing the disturbances in Yang-tsze Valley. FRESH'TROOPS FOR CHINA. ' Mr Chamberlain has cabled to the German Government, and asked permission to purchase horses and mules for China,. He will be glad if the colonial Government- will stffwrd every facility. THE ADKLAIDE*NAVAL RESERVE. Practically tho whole* of the naval reserve have volunteered to man the Protector. One fcandred will bo chosen. H.M.S. WALLAROO AND TORCH. BRISBANE, July 9. Tbe Government are awaiting" a reply from Mr Chamberlain as to whether the Protector is to be manned with South Australian*. Meantime they are preparing to despatch the vessel with a local crew on Monday.
