THE WAIPUNA COMPANY'S PONTOONS.

(By Telegraph.) (fkom our own correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, July 9. The directors and a number of the shareholders of the Dredge Company visited the locality to-day, accompanied by your corres pondent, tff 'witness the launching of the dredgfe pontoons. Ths trip was a chapter of accidents and inconveniences. There oceurrec at Brunnerton a mishap to the Midland engine which delayed us for an hour, and there were sundry other unforeseen stoppages. A great crowd assembled to witness the launching proceeding, but all were doomed to disap pointment, as three jacks were broken, and the pontoons could not be moved on the skids, though they are completed. The dimensions are—Length 65ft, beam, with platform, 31ft, depth aft 6ft Gin, forward 6ft, ladder well 33ft, width sft, well aft for elevators Bft 6in, width sft. While the party were returning a girl named Erickson, about eleven years, was thrown from a trap and had her leg broken, at Totara Flat. There is beautiful weather, the only drawback being that the miners are short of water, and many sluicing claims are at. a standstill.

At a meeting of the shareholders of the Springrale Drgdgingf Company, Jfanuherikia, the report submitted showed that €he dredge has been kept working for fourteen weeks for a total return of 41oz Bdwt 13£r, or an average of about 3oz per week. It was resolved that it is advisable to wind up voluntarily. The directors were all contributing- shareholders, having no paid-up shares. The chairman stated that when the boring rode were used, the lower wound was proved to be shallow, but -where the dredge was at present working the boras yielded fairish sampfe3. This was near another claim, and the directors bought the ground for .£250. As the prospects after fourteen weeks showed no improvement, it was decided to consult the shareholders.

During the week ended to-day, returns were reported from 31 dredges, the total yield being 22660Z 2dwt llgr, or an average of 730z per dredge.

Additional returns:—Alexandra Eureka, Moz; Jutland Flat, 30oz ledwt; Golden Gate, 260z 13dwt; Success, 260z Bdwt; Chariton Creek. 13oz lOdwt ; Chatto Creek, 12oz 15dwt Sgr; Lawrence, fioz 14dwt 21gr.
