CHURCH OF ENGLAND TEMPERANCE SOCIETY.
BAND OF HOPE ANNIVERSARY.
The celebration , of the first anniversary of the Juvenile Branch- , - of the St. Matthew's Church of England Temperance Society wss held on Saturday, in. the day sdh-00l grounds and (schoolroom, the Linwood Temperance Brass Band being in attendance. The .members, numbering in all sems 400, met at 3 o\clock. in the school grounds. The President (Rev. H. Williams, sen.), Viee-Presideni (Mr H. Forwood), Horr. S:cretarv (iMr T. Gordon), and the members of the ladies' and gentlemen's committee were 'present.
. After the band had given a few select tions very nicely, an!d the children being nmsrorrd, they were marched to the church grounds at the east er.d via Caledonian road. Holly road, and Colombo street north. The cross'and banner, with a figure of a lamb, an , '! the following <words thereon: — "Feed tny la-tribe," was carried in front, the band jplayin'g a lively march on the way. On 'arriving at the' church grounds this large number were placed; in position and were photographfd , in a body by Mi' G. E. A. Burrell, of Christ church.
After this -was done they -were marched back <to tho school ground, where they were amused with races, games, and more music from the band until 5 o'clock, when they were taken into the schoolroom to tea. over 400 children., parents and 1 friends being preseni. After tea. the whole tody of children sans: (patriotic songs, the band gave more selections in the room, short addresses wete friven. recitations? by members, cheers given for t>he President, officers, and all helpers to the entertainment, encludißg the Linwood Teimierunce Brass -Band.
