ST. ALBANS.
At the annual meeting of the house- ! holders last evening, all tlie members of the Committee were present. Compared with that of previous years the attendance was only moderate. Mr C. E. Salter was vote<J to the chair. The annual report regretted that (the attendance at the schools had greatly diminished owing to sickness and from other causes. A tribute was paid tc the work done by the teaching staff. The report called attention to the irregular attendance of scholars which was a jrreat drawback to the success of the school, there an average of 86 absent from the main school every day. Sundry matters in connection with improvements to the school and grounds were referred to. It was regretted that reductions had been made in the teachers' salaries and- capitation grant. The Inspectors' reports on the main and side schools were read, showing that good work had been done in the schools. The balance sheet showed that the receipts amounted to £1382 0s 3d and the erpenditure to £1377 13s Bd, leaving a bal-. anoe in hand of £4 6s ?d, * The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following Committee was elected unopposed : —Messrs H. A'Court, T. Allen, R. Fletcher, H. E. Morgan, A. Williams. Thos. Deans, Thos. Palmer, and Geo. Simpson.
A general discussion took place on the sanitary condition of t-he side school, the mode of electiog of members of Education Boards, and the meeting terminated, after passing votes of thanks to the retiring Committee> the teaching staff, and the Chairman.
