AVONSIDE.
l The annual meeting of the parishioners of I Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, held last night, was exceptionally well attended. The Rev. Canon Pascoe, who presided, said he felt that the parish had done well during the past year, and he could not express all he felt last Trinity Sunday, when in response to the appeal made, more than the sum asked for was freely given. As regarded the more directly spiritual work iof the parish, if they" could judge by outward signs, it was not going back. He referred to the several old pterwhkmere who had been taken from amongst them during the year, especially mentioning the late Mr Wilkin, who, at the age of eighty-six, manifested a deep interest in the weliarfe of the parish. The report of the Churchwardens stated that, notwithstanding many badly needed repairs which had been effected, amounting to, £174 Is 3d, the debit balance had been decreased by £16 2s 9d.;- Offertories showed a considerable increase, being the largest ever shown in a balance-sheet. The Cemetery account debit balance' of £6 4s lOd had been converted into a credit balance of £3 lis Bd. Special thanks Were recorded to the ladies who had worked so hard for the sale of work, which realised £62 Is Id. The statement of accounts showed that there was a debit balance of £47 lis 3d."'"• The church re-building fund amounted to £173 7s 4d. For the Sunday-school fund £34 7s 2d had been collected, and the amount expended. The sick fund account showed a credit balance of £10 7s 6d.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
The election of officers resulted as under: —Vicar's churchwarden, Mr W. S. Crichton; parishioners', Mr C. Bean; vestry, Messrs W. D. Lawrence, H. Slater. H. R. Smith. F. E. Wright, jun., W. J. D. Boulton, J. L. Scarvell, J. H. Sluis, J. G. L. Scott, C. R. Westenra, and Captain Marceil ; auditor, Mr E. Cuthbert.
The customary votes of thanks were accorded by acclamation.
It was unanimously resolved that an appeal for a special offertory of £150 be made on Trinity Sunday. Tha Rev. Canon Pascoe shortly referred to his intended visit to the Old Country on account of his health, and asked for his locum tenens, the Rev. Mr Pollock, all the assistance and help which his parishioners would accord to himself. He formally introduced the Rev. Mr Pollock, who made a happy speech, and tbe ordinary business of the meeting terminated.
