GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council was held on Thursday. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), A. Kelman, B. R. McDonald, McCaskill, and Hamilton. An apoJo'"- for absence was received from Mr Dennistoun. A letter from Mr W. Acton, Clandeboye, complaining of the water-race being dry on Newland's station and Maori reserve, was referred to the Committee, who are to look into the matter at once. Mr T. Kesiiher also complained that there had been no water in his race for the last three months at Orari Gorge. It was decided to inform the Committee.
The Ranger of the Geraldine Flat waterrace district "having reported that, owners of property had allowed gorse to smother the races, it was decided that the Committee should take any steps necessary. It was resolved to strike interest and maintenance rates 5-n the water-race districts as under:—Rangitata-Orari, |d and ljd; Woodbury, 7-16 d and 2d; OrariWaiii, lid and ljd; Geraldine Flat, Id and 3_d; Waitohi Flat, 9-16 d and 2M. In the case of tHe Orari-Waihi and Waitohi Flat districts it was agreed to collect only half the interest rate. It was resolved to strike a general rate of Id in the £ for the
year ending March: 31st, 1901, payable on and after January Ist, 1900. Accounts amounting to £387 15s 9d were passed for payment.
