He was under the influence of drink at the time, and was convicted and ordered! to be imprisoned till the rising of the Court. ' Theft or. a Portmantea.it — Dennis Patrick Mahoney was charged with having, on the 17th, at Christchurch, stolen a portntftntfau, value 15s, the property of Salim MaHouck. The accused pleaded "Guilty" to the charge; The man in the most impudent manner had taken the. portmanteau from "Outside the prosecutor's shop. " There were already several - previous convictions against the accused. He was sentenced to two * months' imprisonment, with hard labour

iNDECEjiiT; AssAtrwr. L. Webber, on remand> wae charged with haying on the 9th April, at Sydenham, indecently assaulted a little girl five years of age. The Court was cleared while the case was being heard. A considerable quantity of evidence was heard. After being cautioned, the accused was committed for trial at the next criminal session of the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed: accused in £100, and two sureties in £50 each. ,
