In spite of its small size, the Isle of Man Menu to have been an exceptionally progressive country. It was stated at the meeting of the Canterbury Manx Association yesterday, that a complete House of Representatives was in full working order •ome 200 yea-rs before the English House of Cfemnvons was 'established. Public schools had been established! on the Island liy the Phoenicians, in the dark ages, and members of the royal houses of England, Scotland, and Ireland were regularly educated at these schools. Trial by jury was a recognised institution Hong before it was •dopted in England, and female suffrage was the rule before New Zealand was discovered. Tlie ancient laws and publio records were 'taken away by the Danes, and 4hey are still supposed to he in Denmark lit the present day.
