WEULINGTON HARDWARE t CHRISTCHURCH HARDWARE.
Teams representing the clubs met at Lancaster Park yesterday morning, when the visitors won by 9 poiots (three trie*) to nil. Mr H. Hiddlestone was referee. Christchurch defended the southern goal during the first spell, .and for some time the play was of a give and take character* first one side and than the other having the better of the play. The Christchurch team had one or two chances of scoring which they failed to take advantage of, but towards the close of the spell the Wellingtonians asserted themselves, and after Chmtchuxch had been forced down, tie ball was kicked into touch in goal. On changing ends play was for some time carried on between the two twenty-five flags. The .Wellington team then rushed the ball to the Christohurch line, and! Hodgson, had a fruitless shot at goal. On resuming, Wellington continued the attack, but Christchurch removed the danger, and for some time play was carried on in neutral territory. A free
kick to Wellington gave Young a chance, and he sent the ball over the line, but as it hit one of the Christchurch team before going over only a force down was registered. After the kick out Wellington returned to •tlie attack, and iMcAnnally scored a try, which he failed to improve upon. Even play followed until within a few minutes of "the call of time, when Williams and Thomson scored tries for the visitors, hut neither was converted, and Wellington won as above stated.
