LONDON, April 7.

i Tribal fighting i_ proceeding in Ashanti. The Governor and his wife are isolated ;at Kumassi. The telegraph lines have j been cut, and despatch** intercepted. The edfcuataoi- is serious. A force of . Hau_sas and Gold Coast Police have been despatched to the scene.

(It will be remembered that in 1894 trouble arose between the King of Kumawi, who had declared himself King of Ashapti, tuid the iiritish authorities, and in 1895 an expe_—on was sent against him under the command of Sir Francis Scott, which resuited in the submission of the King, who was aiterwards sent to the Coast. The Kings of Bekwai and Abodom also made their submission, and the country was pkced unuer British protection, and a Resident appointed at Kum;issi. By the Colonial Loans Act, 18a9, a sum of £578.000 was advanced by the Imperial Government to the Gold Coa?t colony for lines from Secccmaee to the goM mines of Tarquah, from Tarquah to Kv.aassi, from Appain to Kumassi, and from Accra to the Volta.
