NEW BRIGHTON.

The fortnightly meeting of the New I Brighton Borough Council was held on Tues- ' d_y night, when there were present—The Mayor (Mr'C. H. Wiimy), and Gouneiuors G-Uiville, Owtes, Edwards, Rowe, Mslntyre, Stevens and Wyatt. Co-Tespondence was read from Mr E. Y. Cox requesting trie Council to improve the roadway leading to tlie Convalescent Home just erected by the Ministering Children's League. The" letter ■ waa referred to the Works Committee. From the Qiairman of tho Demonstration Committee, returning the Council's contribution of £5 to the fund. The letter was received. The Town Clerk reoorted receipts for rates £179 18s 8d; credit balance at bank £363 Os Id. Tbe report was adopted. Cr. McIntyre moved that tie sum of £10 be voted to the Domain Board towards tbe expenses to be incurred in improving the Plantation Reserve. Carried, ft was resolved to draw the attention of the Lyttelton, Harbour Board to the nuisance arising from the stoppage of the old oourse of the river ronnd River Island, and reo-uesting their immediate attention to the matter. Tbe following payments were directed to be made on account of rates col- i Jected:—Drainage Board £140. Waimakariri £20, Hospital Board £13, Charitable Aid Board £13. i
