ST. MATTHEWS CHURCH DAY SCHOOL.
The breaking up of .this school took place on Friday. Tlis Chairman stated that there were forty-eight scholars on the roll, and the head mistress, Miss Lake, had .won the approval of the Committee and the regard of the children. The Diocesan Inspector had cxainiiied in 'religious knowledge, and reported—"ln the highest class the work was remarkably good. I was astonished at the amount of ground covered. In Class 11. there was much greater inequality; in Class 111. the best work was the repetition of the Catechism. I congratulate Miss Lake upon the excellent start which she seems to have made." The examination in secular knowledge Having been fixed by the Committee to take place in May in the future, there was no report presented. The children went through a series of exercises, and gave a very c ""editable entertainment of juvenile performance. Afternoon tea, arranged by members of the St. Matthew's Church, were handed round. Mr Harry Francis addressed the children and parents. The following is the prize list: — ' General knowledge—Standard V.. Ivy Barker 1, Amy Neate 2; Standard IV., Annie Innes 1; Standard 111, Arthur Lines 1; Standard 11., Constance.Gilbert 1; Standard 1., Eleanor Innes 1. Mabel Lucas 2, Jessie Ives 3; Class -11., Dorothy. Innes 1. Dorothy Dv Feu 2. Maggie Martin 3. Mary Corby 4; Class 1., Reginald Chapman 1, Erice Beaumelberg and May Luke 2. May Smith 3. Scripture knowledge—Class 1., Ivy Barker 1. Annie Innes 2; Class 11., Ada Hockey 1; Class 111., Ruby Hasell 1, Thomas Roxton 2. Good conduct—Maggie Ives, Leslie Walker, Frank Roid, .Bertie Kay.
