A collision, caused by vessels being caught in a current, occurred near Gibraltar, between the steamer Cuzco.and the British warship Anson. The Cuzco sustained some damage, and was detained at Gibraltar for repairs. FEARFUL EARTHQUAKE. News has been received of a terrible earthquake at tlic Island 01 Cerum, West of New Guinea. Four thousand natives were killed, and 500 injured. WAR LOSSES IN SAMOA. BER-JN, October 12. The "National Zeitung" says that the. nations exercising a tripartite control will mdemnafy the war losses of the whites in Samoa. MASSACRE IN SOUTH-WESTERN AFRICA. October 13, Information is to hand that the German Commissioner at Rio dol Bey, in SouthWest Africa, and a German trader, together with 100 natives, were massacred in the Hinterland -through falling into an ambuscade.
