Tbe repetition Ust night of " The Forty Thieves" by ihe Pollard Opera Company drew a large audience at the Theatre. The piece went excelieutfy from first to last, several of the β-ugs, dances, marches, &c, oe'tig 'encored. Owing to the company leaving i or Wellington on Saturday there VifU be no matinee, and to-night's and to,morrow evening's will be the last two pertiiriiiances of thy company for the season. T«ie waxworks and vaudeville entertainment at lite Oddfelows , Hull continues to attract large audiences. Last night there was a full house, anil the programme of the cuMutit, went very well. The enteitainment w " t>e -tpeafed ■Co-night: _ The closing meeting for this year's session of' the Tai ' Tnpu - Mutual improvement Society took place-on Monday evening ;Mr J. vosa occupied the chair. A debute took place on thu question, '• Which has t c. Greatest Power in the- World, the Voice or the Pen V" ,the sides being led by Mrs T. Brake and Miss Emily Fujbes respectively. At the close both sides secured aa equal number of voles. Tie Lyttelton Choral Socieiy gave, on Tuesday evening, iv the Colonists' Hall, their third subscription concert of the present season. The programme was cf a miscel.ar.eous- character, embracing glees and choruses, and adngs. The members of the chorus acquitted themselves with their usual excellence, singing with much spirit and precision, their'performances redounding to the credit oi Mr E. U. Just, their enthusiastic conductor. The songs, wHch were we'll selected and sung, were given by Misses Meikle, Barclay, and Andrews, Mesdames WyHe and -Renault, and Messrs West, Joll, and Woodward. Mr 3 Bromley was the principal accompanist on the. piano, but several young ladies relieved her for some items,' and Mrs Renault played a- violin obligate to her own jsongs. Despite the miserable weather the attendance was large.
