CHEVIOT RACING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Cheviot Racing Club was held in ithe Town Hall, Mackenzie, en Safoirday evening. The, repott end balance eheeb; ae.reaid by the hon. eecretary and treasurer (•Mγ J. H. Bpyce), were * adopted. The latter showed a credit balance of £22 odd, wfhich was considered 'highly satisfactory. Several new members -were proposed and elected. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr A. W. Rutherford ; president, Mr W. T. Robinson; vDoe-presidente, Messrs W. Macfarlane, £. D. Giles and Thas. Chapman; judge, Mr W. T. Robmson; starter, Mr Rose Wiflson ; clerk of the course, Mr" B. Martin ; clerk of the scales, Mr VV. S. Pemberthy; hatidicaipper, Mr J. H. Boyoe ; stewards, Messrs Geo. Forbes, R. Ran&oul, J. Fleming, D. O'Connor, D. MoGiloray, J. H. B. Oliver, T. C. Robinson, £. Jackman and A. McLaren ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. H. Boyce. -It was unanimously agreed that the Club make Mr David Sturxock a life member fox Oris past services and hospitality <to racing yisjto». A programme, with iacreased atakes, was Adopted. The JtJ.C. meeting wiJl be continued today. '"The chief events on the card are the Craven Plate and Sydney Handicap. First Blood was shipped for Wellington by the WostraHa last n-ght. The Committee of the Canterbury Trotting Club met on Tuesday evening, and drew up the programme for the Summer Meeting. No less a sum than £1850 will be given away in stakes, which is very considerably more than ever previously devoted to a trotting gathering in the colonies. The Cup, a harness event, at two miles, will be endowed with £300. and there will be a couple of stakes of £200, and one of £150.
