The box plan for the "Belle of New York " will be opened at the Theatre Royal to-morrow morning at ten o'clock. So much ha? been heard of this work that playgoers are eagerly waiting its advent. The Pollards will arrive by express from Dunedin on Friday night. The season in Dunedin has been a record one. The annual meeting of the Lancaster Park Swimming Club is to be held to-night at the park pavilion. > A musical and dramatic entertainment, including the Savage Club orchestra, vocal items and the farce of "lei on Parle Francaia" will be riven to-night in St. Michael's schoolroom. Mrs Harrison Lee will deliver an address on the "No License Question" this evening at St. Paul's schoolroom, Papanui. Tne Leeston Town Hall Company are holding a benefit entertainment on Friday next, September 15th, when a first-class programme will bo given. The proceeds are to be devoted towards improving the property. The annual sports meeting in connection with the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, is to be held on Siturday, the 30th instant. The first annual ball given by the Lyttelton Hockey Club, and the Permanent Militia Hockey Club, will be held in the Lyttelton Oddfellows' Hall, on Thursday night. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Club will be held at the. boathouse to-morrow evening, at eight o'clock. The annual meeting of the Midland Cricket Club will be held on S tturday, at the Clarendon Hotel, at 8 p,m. A practice of the city and suburban choirs will be held to-night in connection with the IHocesan Choral Association, at St. Luke's schoolroom. ! Jhe opening show of the Horticultural Society will open in the "Art Gallery at 1 p.m. on Wednesday next. It will also be open on the following day. Entries close al 8 p.m. on Monday next. I'h: Committee of the Christchurch Centre of the Mew Zealand Natives' Association met yesterday afternoon. It was decided to grant the Association's patronage to the benefit concert tendered to Mr A. H. Jew it s. Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs wrote soliciting the influence of the Avsbciation in bringing about the use of locally produced books in schools in Canterbury. A sub-committee, consisting of the president, Rev. C. A. Fraer and Mr W. A. Hall, was appointed to examine the books and report to a future meeting.
