(PBESB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) - • WELLINGTON, September 13. Commissioner Tunbridge was this morn* "ing able to communicate to the Press brief particulars of a> poisoning case at. Ohaiu on the Manawatu line. Mrs Giles, described as. the wife of a platelayer on the railway, was this inoming arrested by Chief Detective McGrath, on α-charge of attempting to murder Mrs West. The accused appeared before a J.P. at Levin, and was remanded for eight days. Mrs West ia in a very precarious condition, and her dying depositions have been taken. The parties live about a qaar- . ter of a mile from each other. There has been a long-standing neighbour's feud, between them, 'but towards the end of last week this was to a certain extent patched up, and Mrs West accepted the invitation of Mrs Giles to pay her/a visit, which ehe made on Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival at Mrs Giles's house juts Giles gave her a cup of tea, which she drank. Mrs Giles then, pressed her to accept a second cup. In handing to her, Mrs Giles told her she need not stffit, as she had already stirred it. JVLrs West thereupon drank the tea, and immediately took ill. Mrs Giles said she did'not care about her being ill ia her house, and persuaded her to go home. Mrs West then left tho house, and was taken seriously ill on tne road home, vroriting violently. She was found by a settler in a collapsed condition, and the" police were subsequently, commum,. cated with, and some of the vomit was sen* to Air Skey,' analyst, wM» -found abundant traces of arsenic.
