. .*," LYTTELTON. The Lyttdton Borough Council held an ordinary meeting on. Monday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs. Webb, Coofi, loarensim, Qrubb, Lewin, Field and Smith. Leave of absence was granted Crl Brown and Or. Daltey. A letter was read from the Railway Department- offering to renew tbe CJouncii's rigii~ to a siding at hbe Heathcote Valley. The matter was referred to the By-law and Legal Committee with power to act. A letter was read from iMr G-. E. Collins as to the prices of magazines supplied bo the Colonists' Hall Library. The letter was referred to the Estates Com-Siittee, with power to aot A letter from Mr Coilins as' to an alteration in his premises was referred to the By-law and Legal Committee, wittr power to act. Tlie Lyttelton Borough School" Football Club wrote asking permission to play on the Recreation iteserve. The matter was referred to the Reci-eation Committee, with power to act. An application for 100 chairs lor the Colonists' Hail was received from the i Librarian- Miss Kenna, and referred to the Estates Committee to report, and bring up a detailed statement of tlie receipts and ex- • penditure in connection with the hall. Tlie Estates Committee recommended that trees should be planted on Arbor Day, but no formalities should be connected with, the planting. The Committee also recommended that the advantages, of the Glasgow lease for sections iibove the Sumner road should be.brought befort the public. Alter some discussion this matter was deferred, to allow the Committee to consider and report upon the question of an improved approach to the* section-.. The Electric Lighting -rtpecial Committee reported iiaving interviewed the Harbour "Board Improvement Committee and submitted a proposal to amalgamate the lighting of tlie harbour and the town. The C_mmittee was empowered to continue the negotiations. T'he.JTinance Committee reported receipts £573 15s 6d, and recommended payments £163 16s 3d. The overdraft was £70-110s 9d. The report was adopted. Mr J. R. Child's tender for property oa Norwich Quay, lately occupied by Mr Queree, was accepted, also the tender of Mr W. Wales for the lease of 12£ acres on Reserve 68. The Council then adjourned.
