An application by a man for an order' was granted for the Kaiapoi district for twelve months. . Civil Cases. —Cook and Gray, Praser's estate (Mr Johnston) v. Mrs Russell, claim £9 3s 9d; judgment for plaintiffs ex parte; ssme v. Moko Moko, claim £3 8s 3d, on judgment summons. £2 was paid , , and an order made for, £1 8s 3d, 'to be paid -forthwith, or in default seven days' imprisonment, the order to be suspended for four months. Same T. John Solomon, claim £9 lls, on promissory note and interest. Defendant denied giving the note. Judgment was for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, and costs. Same v. W. Uru, claim £5 4s 4d on judgment summons. An order was made for immediate payment, or fourteen days* imprisonment, order to be suspended for six weeks. Same v Hone Maaka, claim a £2 lls 4d. Defendant, to Mr Johnston, , practically refused to give an explanation of his mec&s, and his income, since judgment was given. The Bench pointed out that if defendant choss to act cs was doing in givine evasive answers, he would ~be dealt with for contempt. Counsel for plaintiffs offered to accept settlement in six months, if defendant would promise to pay. Defendant refused to entertain the proposition.
