AKAROA COUNTY DOG TRIALS.

T&ere were more entries this year for the- Akaroa county trials than there were last-year, and several prize-winners at previous trials competed. , Twenty-eight entries were received for the heading, bringing back, and holding event, but. .only seven dogs managed to get their sheep into the ring before time was called, the time being rather >hort. Mr W. Wright's Corbie was placed first, with 27 points, working in his nsual careful style, and being rather lucky in having sheep whi<jh stood for him. He headed in 2min 13sec, and got. them to ring in 6mm 40sec. Mr-'A. Kennedy's Olive scored 25 points, not, .doing his work in .such good time, though otherwise working: splendidly. Mr T. Macdonald'a Dan was' third, with 23 points, getting the sheep.,to ring in 6min 55sec, end would have scored more had the dog-not left the sheep to go for a drink whflst they were in the ring. Other dogs to ring were: —D. Gillander's Laddie, A. Robert's Glen, Mr C. E. Lewis's Dash, and Mr] J. S. Weir's Top. In the yarding event some splendid work was shown, sixteen dogs yarding their sheep. The "first prize went to G..Joines's Bob (29 points), which headed them in 2mm 9sec, and yarded in Bmin 30aec, working very steadily and without a fault. This dog was. lucky 'in having two> runs, as in the first run a stray dog spoilt 'his sheep for him, and after being called off and sent again for a fresh lot he worked much more steadily. The second' dog was Mr J. Kennedy's Wet (28 points), which headed the sheep in 3mm 12sec, and yarded in lOmin 48sec. Mr W. Munro's Sandy was third with 26 points. Other dogs to yard were: —Mr D. GiHamder's Laddie, Mr H- Little's Gather, and Mr McGlashan's Rogue. In the huntaway competition only one dog managed to do the work required—Mr Firmston's Nigger, 20 points. The other dogs did not get tie sheep through the top flaga Mr W. O: Rutherford was judge, and Mr H. D. Buchanan gave the use of his ground for the. trials.
