MERVALE v ALBION.
This return match was played on Lancas-1 ter Park on Saturday, and resulted in » win | fox'Merivale by 18 points (three goals from, trilw" and one penalty goal) to 10 points {two goals from tries). Mr W. Jrrinei was referee. Merivale having opened, forward rushes by, and free kicks to, Albion, bad the effect of placing the Blues on the defensive, and from a passing run by Carr, Forde, Marriott and Butler, Merivala -were forced, downs.>Marriott tried with a free kick, but the bafl was taken by I*ow, and his return bounded off Fawoett- Moir, following up, fell on thfe ball as it'went over the line, and Johnson converted. Albion still had the betW of the game, and their rushes kept putting Merivale an their metah ■ From one of the attacks, in which Forde, Carr, Butler and Lewis took a prominent part, Marfan .was able to secure a try, and Johnson was again successful with the,place. , When the spell ended -Merivale had improved, and a free kick, which was taken, by Drake,,had Albion in trouble /The second spell was mostly in favour, of Merivale, who played with much more dash, and after" Albion had been twice forced, Dansey had the ball • placed for a .penalty and sent it over the bar, being the IBpfuesf - first) score. Butler and Arcbibold stopped several Blue rushes, , but Merivale kept coming hard, and eventually completely upset their opponents' defence. From a scrum near the line Drake dragged himself over, and converted his own.try; near the centre King took the ball on the lineout, passed to Cooke, who ran right round, and Dansey was once more fortunate in the place; then just before the' call of time Fi-aser scored at the finish of a good forward rush, and Dansey repeated his performance.
