EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY.
TELEGRAMS TO THE MAYOR. His Worship the Mayor yesterday received telegrams of sympathy-'from his Excellency the Governor, the Right Hon. tbe Premier, and the Mayor of Hokitika, with reference to the recent railway accident at the Rakaia. The following were the telegrams, together with his Worship's replies: FROM THE GOVERNOR. . "Wanganui, March 13th. His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch. Regret to hear of sad accident. Please express my sincere sympathy with the relatives of those killed. ■' —Rah-urly." ■'.*!''. \ \ . "His Excellency the Governor, ..Wanganui. .Thave your Excellency's telegram v _ud will convey your, message to relatives of those killed and other sufferers, who .Lain sure will greatly appreciate your Excelllhcy's kindly sympathy.—C. Louisson, _d»yii_';'' FROM THE PREMER. "Wanganui, March 13th—His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch—l am indeed very sorry to hear of the sad accident at Rakaia. Kindly convey to the sufferers my heartfelt sympathy. I sincerely hope that everything possible is being done to alleviate their sufferings.—R. J. Seddon." . j His Worship sent the following reply: — "Right Hon. K. J. Seddon—l will convey your kindly message of sympathy.to suf-; ferers, who, I am sure, will be gratified to receive same. Everything possible is bedng done under the distressing circttmstances.— C. Louisson, Mayor." j FROMHOKITIRA. The following telegram was received from the Mayor of Hokitika: —"Hokitika, March I 13—People of Hokitika deeply regret serious railway accident, and tender their heartfelt sympathy to tbe bereaved and sufferers.— i H. L. Michel, Mayor." His Worship re-| plied as under:—His Worship the Mayor, Hokitika—Many thanks for your telegram. Sufferers will greatly appreciate sympathy | of Hokitika people.—C.
