THEATRE ROYAL.
♦ ■■- - " MRS QUINN'S TWINS."
The Mastgio Moore-H. R. Roberts Com- < pany opened their season at tho Theatre ,{ Royal in" Mrs Qnion's Twins." The piece, •, which is descriptive of Irish life in tho last ( century, though somewhat discursive in \ parts, yet afforded an opportunity to Miss • Moore anil .Mr Roberts to display their undoubted ability as vocalists, of which t they look full advantage. Miss Maggie Moore, Mho played the character of Anas- ' tasia Q'uinu, the mother of twin boys, ( j whose mission in life seemed to be to get con- ; i tinuoush/ in trouble, did so with great , • spirit and effect. She sang sevetal songs i cxcelleutly during the progress of the i J comedy and dancod well. Uor pourtrayal , <of the character of the voluble, good- i j hearted Irishwoman, who aids and abets in ] ' the love affair of the schoolmast-er and who ] { keeps her husband in a state of mortal ] ; terror of her, was capital. The part, too, 1 i was given with the true accent of tho , country, and Miss Moore received an en- i J thusiastic welcome from the audience. I Miss Ada YVeodhill made an excellent Kate ; i O'Donnell, especially in tho scenes with < her father where sho owns her love . for the schoolmaster, and Miss Osgood , j Moore was good in the small imrt i lof Xorah Roach. A word of praise Jis due to a very little lady, Baby Gladys Bashford, who played Mary Ann Macrnmara ( ;in a manner which would nave done crodil ;to an older actress. Slie also sang tlio verses of "An Old-fashioned Mother" j i , capitally. The parts of the twins were i ' filled by Miss K. Bashford and Miss N. ' Harper, and they did so with a good deal of J success. Mr it. R. Roberts, wh-i took the part of Gera'd Connor, a sorl of Hans the ! Boatman, created a most favourable iinprcsI sion. He ac'ed throughout with much naturalness, and was particularly good in the scene with the children and in that with I Miss O'Donnell. w here lie declares his love ! for her. Mr Roberts sang several songs i incidental to the piece very well indeed. Mr J. J. Knriis was good in tho character part of Quiun. the fiddler, of which ho made a good denl. The parts of Squire O'Donnell, Sqiiiro Blake and Attorney Regan were filled by Messrs H. Aslflon, A. Cochrane and Fred EsmeKon respectively. Mr Rivers was good as Dan, and the remainder of the characters in tho cast were creditably played by the members of the company. • There is some pretty scenery in tho piece, j especially the set in the second act of the j trysting stene near the lake. " MrsQuinn's j Twins" will be repeated and toj mci'ow "A Piodigal Father" will be pla; e'.
