The British South Africa Company's issue of £025,000 worth of bonds has been placed on the London market, and was subscribed threefold. This is a portion of the proposed issue of a million and half. NEW ZEALAND JVIUAT INSPECTION. Six veterinary surgeons have been selected by the Government to inspect the meat from New Zealand ports. , THE LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL AND THE CABMEN. The prohibition by the London County Council against empty cabs standing in the principal thoroughfares in London, has created dismay amongst tne cabmen. Two thousand have refused to ply, alleging that it is useless do so in the face of the prohibition. February 4. MR CHAMBERLAIN. Mr Chamberlain has recovered from the attack of gout. LORD TENNYSON'S APPOINTMENT. The "Spectator" says Lord Tennyson is the very man for a constitutional Throne. His temper is not easily ruffled, his judgment is serene, and his will not easily shaken. It ie possible he has too litlje self-confidence, but he need only call on Earl Beauchamp, the Governor-elect of New South Wales, for as much as he needs. PARDON OF AN EGYPTIAN EXDLE. CAHiO, February 3. The Khedive has pardoned Toulba Pasha, one of the officers who took part with Arabi Pasha in the 1882 revolt, and who was exiled to Ceylon. He will be allowed to return to Egypt.

[After the defeat of Arabi Pasha and liis army at Tel-el-Kebir by the British troops, under Sir Garnet Wolseley, in September, 1882, Arabi and his Lieutenant, Toulba Pasha, fled to Cairo, where, they surrendered to General Drury Lowe. It was intended at first to charge Arabi with murder and incendiarism, but he was actually brought to trial on the simple charge of rebellion. He pleaded guilty, and was condemned to death; but immediately afterwards the-sentence was commuted by the Khedive to perpetual exile from Egypt and it* dependencies, and Arabi was sent to Ceylon, with Toulba Pasha and other leaders in the rebellion.] SEVERE FIGHTING IN THE CONGO. BRUSSELS, February 4. The latest information received from the Congo states that Iviajor Lothaire severely punished the Mongalla cannibals who recently defeated a Belgian icrce. Lothaire's force killed eighteen hundred natives. EGYPTIAN APPRECIATION OF LORD KITHCENER. CAIRO, February 4. There is a movement among the young native Egyptians to present Lord Kitchener with a portrait of himself.
