After a speech by the Mayor, the Premier spoke of the advantages of the road, which I?ive3 a level causeway to the country districts, and will enable the railway to be carried by the same route when the extension of the Midland line and the growth of the traffic warrant such a wo k. Hβ alluded to the generosity of Mr John Tinline, who gave £540 to the work. He gave credit to the Mayor, Mr Trask, for initiating the work. Cheers were given for the Premier, the Mayor, Mr Tinline, and all connected with the work. The Premier leave* for Wellington at midnight.
