It'if not certain whether all the boarders art safe. There have bean niahy.narrow escapes. An alarm of fire was rang out from Box " No. 6, at'the corner., of Colombo and St. Asaph streets, about half-paat eleven' last night. When the. Brigade arrived at the box, however, no sign of a fire could bo seen. (PRESS ASSOCIATION- _m-_G_tA_t.) %, The Commercial Hotel, - hear; the rail* way station, was burned dow^,at midnight. - - Some of thefurniture and stock was swed. The hotel was owned by Mr Newbigeen, of Hastings, and occupied for the past three months by Mr John Simpson. The insurances wera:—On, the stock and' furniture, £400 in the South British Office, and £400 in the Northern Queensland Office; on the building, £1000 in the North German Office. AUCKLAND, December 9. A fire broke out to-night in the block .of Mr Yates, seed-man, in the-, third storey,, occupied try Miss dire«_maker, whose department was completely gutted. Miss TuffnelTs stocky which was- complet-ly destroyed, was insured for £150 in the National Office. Mr H. AtkinS, draper, in the same block, had his stock partially damaged by water. His insurances .a_B-~-£9GO, New Zealand Office; £400, Royal Office. Mr Yates's shop was slightly damaged by water; his insurances are £_-00 in the Royal Office. The office fittings of the Citizens' Life Assurance Company, and others on the first floor, were damaged by water. ...The block was insured by. the owner, Mr-G. A.- Harris,* for '£3000 in the National Office. ..
