The Legislative Council, in discussing the Federal, resolutions, amended them so as to make the Privy Council the only final tribunal for appeal, and struck out Mr McGowen's amendment which was adopted by the Assembly, providing that the other colonies should agree to reconsider certain important provisions. The Marine Board enquiry into the supposed loss of the ship Mitredale, found that .she was -well manned, sound and seaworthy in every at the time of sailing, and that she probably foundered in the exceptionally heavy gales just after her departure. ■She crew consisted of 23, all told. A meeting of s the . . shareholders of the Kanowna Gold Company authorised the directors to stop working, realise the assets,/and pay the debts. The Company took over the mine on the strength of the glowing reports , of a number of mining experts, which made itappear one of the finest investments in West Australia, but the r£ suits of the working completely disproved the reports. The present manager, declared he had conclusive evidence that -the mine had been salted prior to {he purchase.
